After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, many were left wondering how the United States would be impacted. It’s essential to understand this decision since laws are quickly shifting as lawmakers work to alter abortion regulations for the states they represent.

Did the New Verdict Outlaw Abortion Everywhere in the U.S.?

No, the Supreme Court’s recent overturning did not outlaw abortion everywhere. Instead, this decision gave the people the power to decide what their state’s abortion access laws would be.

People may now vote for delegates who will speak on their behalf and put laws into practice that reflect their beliefs on this matter. This means that, like many other issues and laws, states will differ from one another in how strict or lax their abortion restrictions are.

Is Life-Saving Treatment Still Provided to Women in States With Strict Abortion Laws?

Yes, if an emergency or pregnancy complication such as ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage arises and necessitates care, treatment is still legally available to women. The abortion laws of the state where the woman obtains the treatment or personally resides will have no impact on her legal ability to attain treatment. According to a recent letter from the Health Secretary of Human Services, healthcare workers must use their medical expertise and clinical judgment and “provide stabilizing medical treatment” for women requiring it.

What if I Still Have Questions?

If you have questions regarding your current options or are contemplating traveling for an abortion, contact us for a free, confidential appointment with a nurse today so we can discuss all your options. We do not refer for or provide abortions, but do offer free pregnancy testing and can discuss if a limited ultrasound is needed for your unique situation. A limited ultrasound may be offered at our clinic at no charge and can prove incredibly helpful in understanding what options are available to you.

This exam may help protect your health and safety by potentially notifying you of any pregnancy complications, such as an ectopic pregnancy, which can be life-threatening.

We understand you are in control of your health and make your own decisions, so we’re here to assist you with finding any answers or resources you may need.
