An unexpected pregnancy can invite numerous questions about your partner’s level of involvement. You may find they are supportive during the decision-making process or wish to be uninvolved. If your partner is unsupportive of your pregnancy, recognize that this is a reflection on their part. They may feel overwhelmed or unsure about what lies ahead. This is your pregnancy, and you should not feel pressured to make a decision that you are not comfortable with. We’ve outlined helpful tips for you to consider below.

1. Give Your Partner Time

Your partner may be unsupportive because they feel scared or overwhelmed about the pregnancy. This reaction is more common than you think; they might worry about the future or loved ones’ reactions. Give them space to process the pregnancy, and check in when they’ve had time to consider the situation. You can move forward from there. It’s essential to seek help immediately if your partner is abusive. Violence can escalate during pregnancy and place you in danger. Contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline for 24/7 guidance or dial 911 if you are in immediate danger.

2. You Don’t Have To Wait for Support

Your well-being and support system matter. And although a lack of support from your partner often feels disappointing, you deserve help. Consider reaching out to other loved ones. Do you have family and friends willing to listen? The pregnancy decision is yours, but having others in your corner can make all the difference.

3. Move Forward Confidently
